Life's Underlying Pattern

18 Nov. 2010 Posted by Lishui in

What each of us possesses as a birthright is a tremendously complex collection of millions upon billions of adaptations to take experiential reality and turn it into physical response in order to create new experiential reality. This is God's way of enjoying the universe.
In any complex system, there are emergent properties. It's much easier to talk about emergent properties of complex systems than it is to deal linearly with the parts and interaction between parts of those systems.  What conventional medicine tries do do, however, is to examine physical illness on the simplest level possible, to break it into tinier and tinier pieces until we find ourselves discussing complex processes such as cancer, multiple sclerosis or Down syndrome in terms of cell proteins, genes, and nutritional molecules. In following this very scientific approach, we are completely missing the point of most "illnesses" or "birth defects" most of the time.

In reality, all conditions of mind, health, and bodily function are actually meaningful evolutionary adaptations to the experiences that the organism has had. All conditions.

There is a big pattern that life follows:

Normal Rhythm
The basic rhythm of human life is the day-night rhythm. Night begins at around dusk, and day begins just before 4:00 a.m. During the day time (being diurnal) we are active and the body's thermostat is generally set at a slightly cooler level. This is just because it's hard to be active when you're too warm. At night, however, we require more and more blankets as we settle into our resting phase, until the thermostat setting reaches its maximum level just before the beginning of the natural day cycle: 4:00 a.m.

The Disease Process
Stuff happens. Constantly. That's the whole nature of reality. It's also the nature of reality that none of us is prepared to handle every single possibility that occurs within manifest reality. Sometimes events happen for which we are wholly unprepared. When this happens, we have a biological response that makes our body-mind active, exaggerating the cool, active day phase of our normal rhythm. This can produce a series of physical symptoms,  until we resolve the problem either consciously or by good luck. Then the body goes into a rest mode, an exaggerated warm, resting night phase, to repair tissues after extended active biological response.

When tissues and/or function are largely restored, there is a "flashback" to the original unexpected experience, which serves to turn the mind-brain-body back toward its normal day-night rhythm. After another period of healing integration and water loss (from the edemas of healing), everything returns to the normal day-night rhythm.
